Hello to you all, I have just completed another 3 day session on the Bishops Bowl (BB) Mitre pool. The session went well, it wasn’t my best, but better than others. It was 0500hrs Thursday morning, the car was already loaded and ready for its 2 hour journey from Salisbury to BB, I was full of excitement and caffeine. During my journey I reflected on my last session (See guestbook entry No 30), before I have even arrived at BB, I had already decided to fish peg 15, again. I know this is the wrong way to approach a session, but I love that peg, the question was, is it free? I arrived at BB just before 0700 hrs, already there was a queue but Sarah opened the gate bang on seven. I parked the car and headed round to peg 15. As I approached I could see carp crashing out over by peg 1, even better, I could see that peg 15 was empty and carp were chilling up against the wall (as usual)... sold! Time to get the gear.
My plan was simple, repeat what I did in my last session and feed the swim during the day and fish during the night. Once again the marker float was out and I quickly found the front edge of the gravel. I got two rods clipped up to the gravel and the third was going to fish against the wall. With the rods set and the bivi up I had 3 days of fishing ahead of me, brilliant! The first night produced 8 runs, I landed 4. (15lbs mirror (taken of the wall), 10lbs mirror, 12lbs common and a 6lbs common). The fish I dropped was close to the edge, I think this was because they were spooked by my head torch.
On the second night I decided to fish the back end of the gravel (towards peg 1), this produced 4 runs, with only 1 fish on the bank, (a 10lbs common). I dropped one under the rod tip. I was snapped off twice (on the strike) this was down to the mussel beds, on several retrieves I bought in clump of mussels, so beware. On the third night I decided to come back to the front edge of the gravel, this produced two fish and gave me my best fish of the session (20.6lbs mirror), this was followed by a 13lbs common. Overall the session was slow not just for me, but for everyone however I still had a great time thanks to the company of my fishing buddy Keith, who unfortunately blanked. If he spent more time in his own swim and less time routing through my tackle box and drinking my brews he might of picked up a fish or two, lol. Thanks you Shaun, your advice, as always I’m welcome and thanks to Sarah and the ice cream sold in her shop, it was a life saver.
